Here is a closeup of the upper right corner of the board, showing what comes immediately after where a standard game of Crib would end. There are three important things to note here:
- The Red Skip: If you peg your score so that you land in the red row, you get to skip ahead to the other red row. There are three Red Skip's on the board, to help you get ahead.
- The Penalty box: Note that the row of holes right next to the 121 is blue. This is a penalty box. If you peg into this square, then 1 of 2 things happens:
- 2 players/teams: The person who hits the penalty box has to move backwards 20 points, while the other player/team gains 20 points.
- 3 players/teams: The team that hit the penalty box has to fold their hand and crib immediately. They then have to sit out three hands, using one of their scoring pegs to keep track of how many hands they have missed so far.
- The Time Trap: Towards the left of the image, you can see 3 consecutive rows of blue colored holes. If you peg into any of those three holes, you are caught in the time trap. From this point, you have to peg in the blue holes, which will guide you backward on the board. If you're not careful, you may get caught in the time trap repeatedly while your opponent gets far ahead of you.
