Often a friend of mine and I will get together under the theory that he will show me how to cook something new that I like, so that I can make it for myself. Which never works because hey, why would I do it myself when he'll show up and do it for me?
Well ok, in truth I don't think anyone has ever suggested that I would actually learn anything. But, he does like to cook, and I like to eat, so that seems to mesh well.
Recently we had an adventure in dumplings. Specifically, WonTons and Gyoza. To my amazement, the different between the two is mostly in the shape of the skin you use and how you fold them. Go figger!
Since I had a run of pictures on how to make Tonkatsu from the day before, I though I should take a bunch of pictures of the dumpling adventure as well, since I was going to have to spend some time pretending to be witty anyways.
These are those pictures.
- Things to gather together before you start
- A filling start
- The completed filling
- I swear it's there!
- Anatomy of a WonTon
- Make sure your egg is clean
- Show me Fold The Wonton!
- A shocking surprise ending!
- Le Wontons!
- Let the gyoza begin!
- More complex folding
- A little wrinkle
- The shocking conclusion!
- Le Gyoza!
- Something that was cooked
