After mixing the apples around with the spices (both officially sanctioned and renegade) the apples are placed into the pie crust that's sitting on the nuts and butter* to become the filling of the pie. Remember that the pie is made upside down, so make sure you put the apples in upside down as well so that they come out the right way at the end.
* Sounds like a weird breakfast cereal from Kellogs.
